Brief Background
The Department of Applied Mechanics was founded in 1965 by Professor Ivan Dafinov Kisyov who headed it until his retirement in 1973. Subsequent heads of this department were Professor Tsvetan Todorov Johnov (1973-1990), Assoc.Prof. Peycho Peychev, Ph.D (1990-1994), Assoc Prof. Hristo Denchev Tepavicharov, Ph.D (1994-1996); Assoc.Prof. Yordan Tonchev Yordanov, Ph.D. (1996-2008), Assoc.Prof. Miroslav Simeonov Petrov, Ph.D. (2008-2012), Prof. Jordan Todorov Maximov, D.Sc.(2012-2016), Prof. Jordan Todorov Maximov, D.Sc.(2016-2020). Currently the department is headed by Assoc. Prof. Angel Petrov Anchev, Ph.D. With a decision of the AC from the summer of 2021, the department is transformed into a profiling for all students and doctoral students in the professional field 5.6. Materials and materials science, and from the autumn of the same year the department was renamed "Materials science and mechanics of materials".
Department staff
The staff of the department consists of two professors - Doctor of Sciences, three associate professors, four chief assistants professor - doctors, one assistant professor - doctor, engineer and one technical organizer of the department.
