Brief Background
The Department of Electronics was established on the proposal of the Management of the Higher General Technical Correspondence Institute (VOZI) - Gabrovo and personally by its then Rector Prof. Vesel Savov with the original name "Semiconductor and Industrial Electronics" by the Order No. 2338 of the Minister of Public Education of the People's Republic of Bulgaria dated 15 May 1968. The proposal to establish the Electronics Department was also supported by the Board of Directors of Industrial Enterprises in Gabrovo and the district, with all institutions and enterprises in Gabrovo providing great material, personnel and moral support for the establishment and development of the Department. Engineer Bogomil Gadev from Gabrovo, at that time deputy chairman of the State Committee for Scientific and Technical Progress (SCPT).
In order to meet the demand for personnel in the field of modern electric transport (electric cars, charging stations, hybrid cars), at the end of 2018, on the proposal of the Departmental Council and subsequent approval by the Academic Council, the specialisation "Electronics" for the Bachelor's degree will be changed to "Industrial and Automotive Electronics".
In 2023, the "Electronics" and "Industrial and Automotive Electronics" specialisations were accredited with the grade "9.26" for a period of 5 years and the right to teach students at the Bachelor's and Master's level. The "Electronics" Department is accredited by the NAOA with a very good rating for the teaching of the educational and scientific degree "Ph.D." in the following specialities "Microelectronics", "Quantum and Optoelectronics", "Electronics", "Industrial Electronics" and "Elements and Devices of Automation and Computer Technology".
